Who Are We?

A place where you're treated as a person, not a case file.

Illustration of a woman and man having a conversation in a therapy session, with the woman holding a coffee cup and speaking, and the man sitting on a chair with a distressed expression and scribbles above his head.

The Psych Approach Clinic is a member of APS and AAPI. We have AHPRA-registered psychologists practising at locations in Broadmeadows and Mickleham. Telehealth services are available across Australia. We specialise in supporting children, adolescents, young adults, and families through some of life's most challenging moments.

Our mission is simple: make quality psychological care accessible and affordable to all. We built this practice to reach communities that don't always have easy access to mental health support, and we're deeply committed to that purpose.

We use a holistic, culturally sensitive approach - drawing on evidence-based therapies while honouring each person's background, beliefs, and identity. Sessions run at your pace. Your goals shape the work.

FAQs

Do I need a GP referral to book?

1

No — you're welcome to contact us directly and book without a referral. However, if you'd like to access Medicare rebates, you'll need a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP first. This gives you access to rebates on up to 10 individual sessions per year. Your GP can refer you directly to The Psych Approach Clinic by name.

How much does a session cost and what does Medicare cover?

2

With a valid Mental Health Care Plan, the current Medicare rebate is approximately $98.65 per individual session (registered psychologist, 2025 rates). A gap fee may apply — please contact us for our current fee schedule. For group sessions, Medicare covers 6–10 sessions per year at a rebate of $22.55 per session. All payments are processed prior to your appointment, and an invoice is emailed to you afterwards.

How long is a session and how often will I come?

3

Individual sessions run for 50 minutes and are typically scheduled fortnightly, though this is adjusted based on your individual needs. For children aged 5–12, sessions run for 40 minutes followed by a 10-minute parent intervention and debrief, so you're always kept informed and involved. Group sessions run face-to-face or via Zoom over one day or across several weeks, depending on the program.

Do telehealth sessions attract Medicare rebates?

4

Yes. Telehealth sessions attract the same Medicare rebates as in-person appointments, as long as you have a valid Mental Health Care Plan. Once you're booked in, we'll email you a secure session link. At your appointment time, simply click the link from your phone, tablet or computer — no app downloads or technical setup required.

Do you accept NDIS clients?

5

Yes. We welcome NDIS participants and work with self-managed and plan-managed clients. If your NDIS plan includes funding under Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living, you may be able to use this for psychology sessions with us. Please note we are not an NDIS registered provider, so we are unable to bill NDIA-managed participants directly. If you're unsure whether your plan covers psychology with us, get in touch and we'll help you work it out.

My child is nervous about seeing a psychologist. What should I tell them?

6

It's very common for children and teenagers to feel a little anxious before their first session — and that's completely okay. You can reassure them that a psychologist is simply someone safe to talk to, a bit like a coach for their thoughts and feelings. There are no tests, no wrong answers, and they won't be asked to do anything they're not comfortable with. For children aged 5–12, we also include a 10-minute parent debrief at the end of each session so you always know how things are going.
